The Good Mess
Summer Camp
Creative summer weeks for kids aged 6 to 14
Dates: 3rd-7th August 6-10yrs | 17th-21st August 11-14yrs | 24th-28th August 11-14yrs
Get ready for a week packed with colour, creativity, and hands-on making. Our Good Mess Summer Camp is designed for imaginative young artists who love to explore, experiment, and create.
Led by experienced creative workshop hosts Sophie and Louis, alongside school art teacher Annie, artists will dive into the exciting world of sketchbooking through fun daily activities and playful artistic challenges.
By the end of the week, every student will leave their artwork and a once blank sketchbook now bursting with artwork, ideas, development, writing, collage, drawings, photographs, and personal discoveries.
What is sketchbooking?
Sketchbooking is an exciting and expressive way to explore creativity. It encourages experimentation, confidence, and self-expression without worrying about perfection. While it is a key part of art education and creative practice, it is not often explored in depth at this age, making this camp a unique opportunity for young creatives. There are no rules on what can go inside. Messy ideas, brilliant mistakes, quick sketches, thoughts, textures, and memories are all part of the process.
Included for every artist
At the start of the week, each attendee will receive their own creative kit to keep, including:
Daler and Rowney sketchbook
Daler and Rowney watercolour set
Pencils and pens
A disposable film camera
These tools will become their personal creative companion throughout the week.
Activities throughout the week
Each day will feature a mix of exciting workshops and creative sessions, including:
Painting
Drawing
Printing
Sculpture
Pottery
Marbling
Photography
Collage and mixed media
and importantly, play!
Students will explore new techniques, develop ideas, work on group projects and create finished pieces to take home. We will also encourage students to document thoughts, feelings, inspirations, and reflections throughout the week, helping them build confidence and creative identity. At the end of each week we’ll host an exhibition to exhibit artworks.
We will also be taking trips to local outdoor spots such as Windmill Hill City Farm and Victoria Park to explore painting, drawing, and foraging around nature and animals.
